Install Traffic Calming Measures on South 120th
The Issue
Living on South 120th Street in Boulevard Park, WA, has become increasingly concerning for me and my neighbors. We have witnessed a terrifying pattern of accidents, and it's only a matter of time before another life is lost. On May 26, 2025, a tragic accident shook our community when a car speeding recklessly down our street jumped an island at the intersection and crashed through not just one, but two homes. This horrific event was a catastrophic reminder of the persistent speeding problem on our street.
This isn't an isolated incident. We've seen a troubling number of accidents caused by speeding, each one bringing more fear and anxiety into our neighborhood. The risk is unacceptable, and we must act now to prevent further tragedies.
We call on the city authorities to immediately install traffic calming measures on South 120th Street, between Military Road and Des Moines Memorial Drive. Possible solutions include the installation of speed bumps, stop signs, or other viable traffic calming measures designed to deter speeding and ensure the safety of residents and commuters alike.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speed is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all fatal traffic crashes. Implementing traffic calming solutions can effectively reduce speeds, resulting in fewer accidents and, more importantly, saving lives.
Our neighborhood is not just a series of houses but a community where people feel safe and secure to live their lives. We deserve streets that protect our families, children, and homes from the dangers of speeding vehicles. It's time for our voices to be heard and for tangible action to be taken.
I urge everyone concerned about the safety of our community to sign this petition. Together, we can make South 120th Street safer for everyone.
