This is a small step that can make a huge difference!

Managing traffic safety is crucial to ensure kids are confident coming to school each day, especially if their parents can't drop them off in the mornings. However, the Dunford Way/Oriole Ave crossing, a popular route to Peterson Middle School, a school in Sunnyvale, CA, lacks ANY stop signs or pedestrian crossing lights, despite being incredibly crowded during school start times. This lack of traffic control turns the critical crossing into a hazard instead of a safe route, where kids have waited several minutes before a car stopped to let them cross.

Many student parents and guardians have also expressed their concerns about the safety at this crossing, including my mother, who found it outrageous that we had to cross such an intersection every day. Not only that, but 2 years ago a PMS student had a bike accident on their way to school. While it wasn't on this specific crossing, it highlights the need to manage school-time traffic.
