The Issue

The intersection of Lowell Boulevard and West 2nd Avenue is an important part of our Barnum neighborhood. It connects directly to the Weir Gulch Trail, a popular route for families, walkers, bicyclists, and pet owners. Just steps away, the community garden brings neighbors together and adds to the warmth and vibrancy of the area.

But this intersection is also becoming increasingly unsafe.

Speeding on Lowell Blvd is a frequent issue. Without stop signs or clear traffic controls at W 2nd Ave, pedestrians and cyclists face real risks when trying to cross. People using the trail—and especially those accessing the garden—are regularly exposed to fast-moving traffic. A space meant for community, recreation, and connection is being compromised by unsafe driving behavior.

Installing stop signs at this location on Lowell Blvd is a simple, effective way to calm traffic, reduce road noise, and greatly improve safety for everyone moving through the area—whether on foot, by bike, or by car.

We urge Denver city officials and traffic planners to take action and prioritize the safety of our community.
