Install Speed Camera on A286 in Grayswood Village

Install Speed Camera on A286 in Grayswood Village
The Issue
Persistent speeding in the 30mph zone of the A286 running through Grayswood Village has become an issue which is putting residents and users of Grayswood's facilities at risk. On one side of this stretch of road there is a play school, nursery, village hall, cricket green, primary school, social club, houses and a bus stop. On the opposite side, there is a bus stop, church, pub, and more houses. This setup means that vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly, frequently need to cross the road or play close to it.
Despite the efforts of the Grayswood Community Speedwatch Group, which records an average of one car every two minutes exceeding the speed limit by more than 20%, and often up to 50%, the speeding problem remains daunting, with cars sometimes traveling at up to 60mph or more. Occasional Police enforcement and the limited speed signs in place have not worked to reduce speeding either. This situation is a recipe for accidents and it is only a matter of time before a serious incident occurs if action is not taken.
To ensure the safety of all Grayswood Village residents and those who use these facilities, it is crucial that Surrey County Council installs an average speed camera in the 30mph zone of the A286. Such a measure would effectively deter speeding, encouraging drivers to adhere to the limit and thus significantly reduce the risk of accidents.
Many community members are anxious about the safety of their children, families and neighbours. Our community deserves to feel safe while crossing, playing or living near this road. An average speed camera is a proven solution that would foster a safer environment for everyone.
We are calling on Surrey County Council to take this proposal seriously and act promptly. By standing together, we can bring about change and protect the well-being of our community members. Let us safeguard the future for our children and elderly by making the A286 a safer place.
Please join us in urging Surrey County Council to install an average speed camera on the A286 in Grayswood Village and protect our community from preventable harm.
