Install Speed Bumps on North Thacker Ave and Base Blvd for Safer Streets

The Issue

On the tragic night of April 13, 2025, a beloved family pet was killed in a hit-and-run accident on North Thacker Ave and Base Blvd. Illegally speeding, the driver hit the dog at excessive speed and then heartlessly drove off with little concern for the damage caused. The local law enforcement response was that there was little they could do. It's stories like these that highlight a clear problem with traffic safety in our area. Implementation of traffic-calming measures, such as speed bumps, could effectively combat this issue. According to a study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, speed bumps reduced the occurrence of crashes by around 40% in Portland, Oregon between 2007 and 2011. The installation of speed bumps on North Thacker Ave and Base Blvd would discourage speeding and make it safer for everyone, including pet owners and their furry friends, to walk in our community. This heartbreaking incident must not be in vain and should serve as a wake-up call to improve road safety. Please sign this petition and join us in urging the city council to install speed bumps in this area.
