Install speed bumps on Balmoral Drive to protect local children and animals

The Issue

Multiple animals have been killed on Balmoral Drive as a result of drivers ignoring the 20mph speed limit.

Balmoral Drive, the new Balmoral Gardens estate and the nearby Botanic Gardens is an area home to many families with young children and pets. Children who attend the two nearby primary schools, Larkfield and Churchtown, often walk home in this area.

It seems some drivers use Balmoral Drive as an alternative route to the busy Preston New Road. Drivers can be seen doing up to 40mph, ignoring the  20mph speed limit and therefore endangering local residents and animals.

With summer fast approaching, children will be playing outside more and pets are more likely to be outside.

There is absolutely no argument for drivers to be speeding on this relatively quiet road. How long before a car hits a child? If drivers were sticking to the 20mph limit, animals may not be killed and may have time to get out of the way. There is no justifiable reason to be doing more than 20mph on this residential road.

Losing a pet is devastating for families - losing a child is unthinkable. Install speed bumps to slow drivers down and remind them why the 20mph speed limit is in place.
