I've lived in our neighborhood for the past five years, and I've witnessed a worrying and persistent issue that affects us all—the alarming speeding of cars down our residential streets. Just last month, I watched with horror as an Amazon delivery driver was nearly struck by a speeding vehicle.
Our neighborhood is a family-friendly area, but the constant danger posed by reckless drivers has made it feel unsafe. With several four-way intersections along a mile-long stretch, none equipped with crosswalks or speed bumps, pedestrians, cyclists, and children playing in the area are at constant risk.
This crisis has reached a point where some of our neighbors are considering moving away because they no longer feel safe to walk or let their children play outside. We shouldn't have to live in fear or be trapped indoors due to reckless driving. Our community deserves a safe environment for everyone.
We believe that the installation of speed bumps and clearly marked crosswalks at all intersections can significantly reduce speeding, ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike. Similarly, increasing visible signage warning drivers to slow down and enforceable speed limits would also be instrumental.
