The Issue

Every parent wants to ensure their child's safety, especially during the busy school drop-off and pick-up times. Unfortunately, in Sandford, this isn't always possible due to dangerous parking habits along Dabinett Road. I've personally witnessed several frightening 'near misses' where children have narrowly avoided being hit by cars as they navigate their way to school. These incidents are not only distressing but entirely preventable with the right measures in place.

The current situation allows cars to park dangerously close to where children are walking, obscuring visibility and increasing the risk of accidents. Furthermore, the congestion caused by improperly parked vehicles contributes to traffic flow issues, resulting in unnecessary build-up on the main station road. This makes it difficult for emergency services and other commuters to access the area efficiently and safely.

To address these pressing safety concerns, I urge the local council to implement double yellow lines or yellow zigzag lines on Dabinett Road, specifically along the pathway leading to Sandford School. By prohibiting parking in these areas during school hours, we can significantly reduce the risk of traffic accidents and enhance the safety of all children and their families.

According to Highway Code regulations and numerous studies, strategic road markings serve as a critical tool in managing traffic flow and ensuring pedestrian safety. Implementing these changes can make a tremendous difference in the daily lives of Sandford residents, ensuring that the journey to and from school is as safe as it should be.

Please join me in calling upon the local authorities to take immediate action. By signing this petition, you’ll be supporting a necessary change that prioritizes the well-being of our community and its children. Together, we can make Sandford a safer place for everyone.
