Every day, adults and children risk their safety climbing a steep concrete embankment between the sidewalk and the FreshCo parking lot on Lawrence Avenue East in Scarborough. In rain, snow, and icy conditions, this slope becomes especially dangerous.

I use this route daily, and recently my friend slipped while climbing it and fractured her foot, leaving her in a cast. Many residents, including students, shoppers, and families, use this shortcut because it is the most direct route to the plaza.

A simple solution exists: install a set of stairs connecting the sidewalk to the parking lot. This would provide a safe, reliable pathway and help prevent future injuries.
