The issue

Being a disabled individual who requires walking aids, I've experienced first hand the difficulty in providing fresh and cool water for the dogs in the fenced Frascot off-lead area. Currently, the process involves filling a container with water, juggling it alongside my walking aid, and navigating a considerable distance from the only available access gate to the drinking bowls located under the shade of a pergola. This setup poses a significant challenge, not only for me but also for many other aged and disabled patrons who love bringing their furry companions to this otherwise wonderful space.

With the summer months upon us and higher then previous years temperatures, it's crucial to ensure that all dogs have immediate access to fresh and cool water. Dehydration is a severe risk, which i have observed first hand a dog collapsing in the fenced area a short time ago, after the tap inside the fenced area was removed to outside the fence.

Its so very important in outdoor areas dogs that are actively playing and socializing with other dogs, can go to the water bowls, they have always had available to get a fresh drink.  To suggest a dog carrier has to leash a dog, and walk them outside the fence for a dog to get a drink, is unrealistic.  Dog carriers can not know how quickly a dog can become dehydrated.  The dogs can not ask for a drink, now can they?

To address this issue, I am urging the Gold Coast Council to install a new two gate system as near as possible to the external tap. This small change would make a world of difference by significantly reducing the distance and effort required to keep the dogs hydrated.

Imagine the relief this would bring to elderly and disabled visitors like myself. Not only would it facilitate a more inclusive and enjoyable experience, but it would also enhance the overall functionality and safety of the park, while protecting dog well-being.

The installation of a new two gate system is a practical, straightforward solution that aligns with the Council's commitment to cater to all community members, especially in-firmed and disabled individuals, ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for everyone.

Installing this gate would demonstrate the Council's dedication to improving community spaces and fostering an inclusive environment for all patrons and their pets.

Please join me in calling on the Gold Coast Council to take this necessary action. Sign this petition to make a vital improvement for the aged and disabled users of the Frascot off-lead area and ensure that all our beloved dogs have easy access to fresh cool water. Your support can help make a meaningful change. Thank you.
