Install necessary traffic controls at Rock Hill Road and Old Nyack Turnpike
The Issue
As a resident living nearby the intersection of Rock Hill Road and Old Nyack Turnpike, I witness daily the hazardous conditions caused by incessant traffic. Due to the light patterns at Old Nyack and Route 45, as well as at Old Nyack and Kennedy, traffic frequently backs up, blocking side roads, including Rock Hill Road. It’s illegal to block a side road, yet residents like me find ourselves unable to exit our streets safely due to cars piling up and obstructing the way.
Adding a 3-way stop sign at this crucial intersection would significantly mitigate the traffic congestion, facilitating not only smoother vehicular movement but also enabling residents to access and exit their homes without undue hassle. Additionally, placing crosswalks both at the intersection and at the corner of Garden Street would dramatically enhance pedestrian safety, allowing individuals to cross Old Nyack Turnpike securely and reduce the risk of accidents.
Research shows that the implementation of clear traffic controls and pedestrian crosswalks can lead to a tangible decrease in traffic-related accidents and improve the harmony between drivers and pedestrians. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that intersections fitted with appropriate signage and pedestrian pathways report fewer accidental collisions.
Implementing these measures will offer an actionable solution that aligns with local traffic regulations and address the citizens’ rightful demand for safety. As a community, it is vital that we come together and urge our local government to prioritize the installation of these essential safety features.
Your signature can make a pivotal difference in increasing safety and reducing traffic woes for everyone in our community. Please sign this petition to support the installation of a 3-way stop sign and pedestrian crosswalks at the Rock Hill Road and Old Nyack Turnpike intersection.
