Install More security cameras/Improve Security around the CSUN pond/Orange Grove
The Issue
I am disgusted by the recent attack on a girl yesterday morning at the orange grove near our school pond. This tragic incident was not the first and, unfortunately, it may not be the last unless we take concrete action. Students have the right to feel safe anywhere on school premises, and it's unacceptable that there is no proper security in that area (especially cause it serves as a bus stop area for many people).
There have been multiple reports of suspicious activities and potential threats around the pond area over the years, yet nothing significant has been done to mitigate these safety concerns. The area’s seclusion, while beautiful and peaceful, unfortunately makes it an attractive spot for criminal activity, particularly during hours when it is less frequented.
The installation of more security cameras in this vicinity would be a significant deterrent to potential offenders. These cameras would not only provide vital evidence if an incident were to occur but would also act as a preventive measure, encouraging a safer environment for everyone. Surveillance systems are effective in reducing crime rates, and their presence serves as a warning that criminals can and will be apprehended. We do know there is likely some installed already near blue phones and on a building but there should be more cameras.
Cameras are a practical step that would enhance our security infrastructure without disrupting the natural beauty of the pond area. Moreover, the presence of cameras has been proven to reduce crime by at least 50% according to various studies, offering peace of mind to students, parents, and teachers alike. Adding more security that patrols the area could also be helpful.
We urge the school administration to take this matter seriously and act swiftly in the best interest of everyone’s safety. By signing this petition, you're taking a stand against violence and advocating for the protection and well-being of our school community.
You may also call our president's office at (818) 677-2121 and politely demand better security at the pond. Email is also available via the President's page on the CSUN website.
