In our Naenae neighborhood, the absence of adequate lighting at Naenae Primary School is a growing concern, particularly when the sun sets, leaving the area in pitch darkness. This lack of lighting not only poses a threat to the safety of children and residents alike but also encourages illicit and harmful activities, such as drug use and theft. The school grounds, supposed to be a safe haven for learning and play, have instead become a playground for individuals with ill intentions after dark.

The local community in Naenae are deeply troubled by the current conditions. Without a caretaker present in the mornings, potential hazards remain unchecked, risking harm to our children. The playground has become a hiding spot for local thieves that frequently attempt break-ins In our area. 

According to the New Zealand Ministry of Justice's crime statistics, areas with inadequate lighting are more susceptible to crimes such as vandalism and break-ins. While Naenae has much to offer its residents, ensuring the safety of its youngest members should be a priority.

By installing proper lighting around Naenae Primary School, we can reclaim our neighborhood's safety and peace of mind. Adequate lighting serves not only as a deterrent to criminal activities but also an assurance to parents that their children can learn and play safely.
