In Galloway Township, our love for sports like pickleball and basketball is undeniable. Yet, there have been countless times when, as the sun sets, I, along with many others, am forced to halt our games simply due to the lack of adequate lighting at our community courts. This often means either calling it a day too early or driving to neighboring towns that have wisely invested in illuminated courts for their residents.

The absence of lights restricts our ability to engage in these healthy activities during the evening hours, a time when many people, after a long day of work or school, are free to relax and exercise. Providing lights at our local pickleball and basketball courts would not only extend playing hours but also foster community spirit, encourage physical activity, and promote healthier lifestyles among residents of all ages.

There are numerous examples across the country where similar initiatives have led to increased community engagement and even local economic benefit. According to a study by the National Parks and Recreation Association, communities with well-lit recreational facilities see higher usage rates, leading to healthier populations and reduced crime rates.

Installing lights is a feasible and realistic goal. With today's advancements in energy-efficient lighting solutions, such as LED lights and solar-powered systems, the environmental footprint can be minimized and costs can be kept manageable. Furthermore, these installations provide long-term benefits by enhancing the usability of public recreational spaces.

I urge the Galloway Township Council to consider this proposal seriously. The initial investment in court lighting will pay dividends in terms of improved community health, safety, and satisfaction.
