The Issue

As a parent in West Seattle, I've witnessed the passion my children and their friends have for skateboarding. Day in and day out, they eat, breathe, and sleep skateboarding. It's more than just a sport to them; it's a way of life that keeps them engaged and out of trouble.

However, the lack of lighting at Delridge Skate Park limits their ability to practice and grow in their sport after sundown. This is not only an inconvenience but also a safety concern as it increases the risk of accidents due to poor visibility.

According to the National Safety Council (NSC), proper lighting can reduce accidents by up to 60%. Furthermore, research conducted by The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that participation in structured sports like skateboarding can lead to lower levels of youth crime.

By installing lights at Delridge Skate Park, we would be providing our young skateboarders with extended hours for safe practice while also encouraging positive engagement within our community. This simple change could have profound effects on our children's lives - promoting physical activity, fostering talent development and keeping them off the streets during vulnerable evening hours.

Let's light up Delridge Skate Park! Sign this petition today and help us make this positive change for our kids' future.
