As someone who attends Cambridge High School and crosses its busy roads everyday, I am deeply worried about the safety of my peers who also cross these roads daily. Many students and community members traverse these busy intersections on foot, often during peak traffic hours under precarious road conditions. Sadly, not all drivers in our area maintain an attentive or aware state while behind the wheel. Pedestrian deaths have risen over 50% since 2009, mostly in urban areas and Milton, GA is no exception. The crosswalks near Cambridge High School lack lighting, putting students at risk. Installing lighted crosswalk signs with blinking features would alert drivers, improve safety, and help prevent tragedies, especially in this busy school zone. In addition, to help mitigate speeding, the Milton City Council should install flashing speed limit displays around Cambridge High School that will send a ticket in the mail to any speeding drivers. 

I urge the Milton City Council and Mayor Peyton Jamison to take immediate action by installing these much-needed lighted crosswalk signs and speed displays around Cambridge High School. By doing so, they would reaffirm their commitment to community safety and the wellbeing of their constituents.
