Install Indigenous history signs in Mississauga parks
The Issue
The land upon which we live, socialize and exist has a forgotten history: that of the original names of the land. Mississauga parks serve as places of nature and community, but they often fall short of acknowledging the roots of the land. This petition proposes Indigenous plaques and signs across Mississauga parks. This will promote reconciliation by bridging the gap between what we currently know and what we need to know.
Mississauga City Council and Mayor Carolyn Parrish hold the power for decision-making, with possible changes coming with the upcoming election. The petition will begin seeking signatures around September 23, in time for Truth and Reconciliation Week. Indigenous history and knowing of this land has been overlooked in our public spaces for too long. By signing this petition, you contribute to the change and reconciliation of the original roots of these parks.
