Our community in West Odessa deserves to feel safe, especially the children who attend G.E Buddy West Elementary School. Each day, countless students cross the busy intersections near our school, risking their safety on their way to and from classes. As concerned parents and community members, we are alarmed at how hazardous these crossings have become without appropriate traffic controls.

The intersections of roads W Sycamore Dr and W 26th St, as well as N. Mockingbird Ln and W 26th St, experience high levels of traffic, especially during school hours. This intense traffic flow, combined with a lack of proper stop signs, increasingly jeopardizes the lives of our children and other citizens. Numerous complaints have been raised about the speed at which vehicles pass through, often ignoring the need for caution in a school zone.

Statistics from recent studies show that the implementation of four-way stops can reduce traffic accidents by up to 50% in residential areas. Given these intersections are frequented by young pedestrians and their families, the absence of such measures is unacceptable. Moreover, four-way stops would not only benefit our students but also enhance the safety and convenience for all residents of West Odessa.
