The Issue

I have, on multiple occasions, come perilously close to experiencing an accident at the intersection of Shoal Creek Road and North Etowah Drive. This dangerous junction is not an isolated concern, but a shared fear among our community who have recounted their own near misses. The existing stop sign on North Etowah Drive provides inadequate visibility for those attempting to turn left, with the dense cluster of trees obscuring sight lines and forcing drivers to edge into Old Shoal Creek Road to ensure its safe to proceed. The situation is further complicated by speeding vehicles along Shoal Creek Road, which only heightens the risk and jeopardizes the safety.

Add to this the innumerable unseen scenarios in which those proceeding down Shoal Creek fail to see someone pulling out from North Etowah, or vice versa, it's clear that action is urgently needed. We cannot wait for a devastating accident to occur before we address these issues.

It's high time we prioritize safety over speed. The introduction of a four-way stop at this intersection would significantly reduce the risk of accidents and enhance the safety of all road users. Not only would it offer a clear view for drivers turning from North Etowah, it will also encourage speeders on Shoal Creek to slow down, acting as a much needed deterrent on this busy road and with individuals who walk this road frequently by themselves and with children.

A safer neighborhood is conducive to a healthier, happier community—one where residents need not fear the drive towards the intersection of Shoal Creek Road and North Etowah Drive. Let's prioritize the lives and safety of our fellow citizens over convenience. Please, sign this petition to urge our local authorities to install a four-way stop at the intersection of Shoal Creek Road and North Etowah Drive.
