Install 'Do Not Enter' signs on cut through streets in West Warwick
The Issue
My community in West Warwick, RI, like many others, values the safety of its children and pedestrians. I'm deeply concerned about the traffic patterns that have developed over time on. Our roads have become dangerous shortcuts for drivers, with no sidewalks, narrow lanes, and children often playing outside.
Pawtuxet Terr., Kulas Road and Juniper Drive, handle a lot of unanticipated traffic. Campbell Street was given a 'Do Not Enter' sign that will be enforced. It's only logical and fair that our streets deserve the same level of safety. These cut-through streets are not designed to handle the high volume and speed of cars daily cutting through to avoid congestion on larger roads.
Why is this important? Statistics show that in areas without adequate pedestrian infrastructure, the risk of accidents rises. According to the Federal Highway Administration, pedestrian accidents are a growing concern, especially in residential areas without sidewalks. Implementing 'Do Not Enter' signs will help reduce traffic and protect our children, walkers, and bikers.
Therefore, I implore local authorities to consider the safety of our neighborhoods by installing 'Do Not Enter' signs on Pawtuxet Terrace, Kulas Road, and Juniper Drive. This is not just about traffic – it's about protecting our community and ensuring a safe environment for everyone. If Campbell Street was prioritized for these reasons, why aren't these equally vulnerable streets getting the same attention?
Please join me in urging the West Warwick Town Council and local leaders to extend the same protective measures that have benefited Campbell Street to our roads. This change is necessary, reasonable, and crucial to our community's well-being.
Sign this petition and help us make our neighborhood safer for everyone.
