We are a collective of concerned ER students, graduating seniors from East Rockaway High School, and regular users of Ocean Ave.  As daily commuters and the future of our beloved town, we are deeply concerned about the safety of our residents and the countless people driving through East Rockaway. We are witnessing a constant struggle navigating Ocean Ave. from the East Rockaway Train Station, north past our school, all the way to Centre Ave. The lack of curbs which should have been properly built on this important Nassau County road decades ago, and the absence of new sidewalks that ensure safety, is distressing.

The installation of curbs and new sidewalks is not just about making the area safe for us as individuals, but also making it safe for our broader community. This includes pedestrians, bicyclists, commuters, students, and seniors; hence it's an issue that must be of concern to everyone in our extended community who values safety and security.

Strolling and walking should be a pleasure, not a hazard. This is the time to transform Ocean Avenue into a secure and aesthetically pleasing part of our beautiful suburb on the South Shore of Long Island.

Let us come together to advocate for our road safety, and call for curbs and new sidewalks to be constructed.
