The Issue

Working at Dunkin for 11 years on the corner of Fawn Road and Saratoga Road in Gansevoort, NY, I've witnessed countless accidents and near misses. This stretch is not just a route for drivers but a crossing point for pedestrians coming from nearby businesses and attractions. Heartbreakingly, there have been numerous accidents and even fatalities here. The most recent tragedy involved a man struck by a tractor-trailer. It's a harrowing situation every day, knowing that everyone simply wants to return home safely.

The area around Fawn Road and Saratoga Road is rapidly growing, with more businesses like Hudson Headwaters Health Network (HHHN), restaurants, an animal hospital, and even gas stations. It's a bustling hub visited by locals and tourists alike. People staying at nearby campgrounds often cross this road to pick up necessities. Yet, the absence of a crosswalk and adequate street lighting makes this basic task perilous.

Recently, there was another accident where civilian cars were struck by a police vehicle. These incidents aren't isolated but a part of an unfortunate pattern that has persisted for far too long. This crossroads has become increasingly unsafe, and it's high time we prioritize safety here.

Installing a crosswalk and street lighting would not only slow down traffic but also increase visibility significantly, reducing the risk of accidents and saving lives. With these enhancements, this intersection can become a safer space for both drivers and pedestrians.

Let's urge the local authorities to take immediate action in making Fawn and Saratoga roads safer for everyone. Sign this petition to demand the local government to install essential safety features and make our community a safer place to live.
