Install Coffee and Tea Makers on Every Floor of the Centers for Science and Health Professions Building
The Issue
As paying students of the University of St. Thomas, we invest a significant part of our resources as well as our time into our education with the expectation of certain amenities that enhance our learning experience. One such amenity we desperately need, is coffee and tea makers on every floor of the Centers for Science and Health Professions building, where several STEM majors, future doctors and nurses, all study, tutor and learn.
Statistics show that consuming caffeine can help improve our cognitive performance, hence supporting our educational efforts. According to Nutrition, researchers have found that a moderate intake of caffeine can improve cognitive performance and mood (Haskell et al., 2005). This enhancement in performance and mood can ultimately help us improve in classes.
Moreover, with roughly three thousand plus undergraduates (The University of St. Thomas, Facts & Figures, 2019), ensuring access to these basic amenities should be a priority considering the significance it can have on our daily routines. Having a coffee and tea maker on each floor would save us the untimely trouble of going off-campus or far within the campus just to get a small but meaningful boost to our days, and long evenings.
We, the students of the University of St. Thomas, urge the administration to take this request into serious consideration and provide us with the simple convenience of having coffee and tea makers on every floor of the Centers for Science and Health Professions building.
