Our cemeteries should be places of peace and respect, where we can commemorate our loved ones in serenity. Personal items that held sentimental value were stolen, and the peace of our visits shattered by this act of theft.

It’s a space that should be protected by the community and, more importantly, by those in power who have the ability to enforce security measures.

Installing CCTV cameras at Tipton Cemetery is a practical and effective measure to deter thieves and vandals. Evidence shows that CCTV systems significantly reduce crime rates, as they act as both a deterrent and a tool for catching perpetrators. Such a system could provide the peace of mind necessary for all visitors, allowing them to focus on paying respects without fear or anxiety.

We urge the Sandwell Council to take immediate action. By installing CCTV cameras, they will not only protect the graves from further desecration but also honour the memories of those who have passed. Let’s ensure that Tipton Cemetery is a safe and sacred place for all families.
