Install CCTV at Woodhouse Lane SkatePark Hedge End Southampton

Install CCTV at Woodhouse Lane SkatePark Hedge End Southampton
The Issue
My son loves scootering, but he like many others have sadly become a victim of harassment ,aggressive behaviour and assault ( I am aware of 11 assaults since March) by a disruptive group of youths at the Woodhouse Lane Skatepark in Hedge End, Southampton. Like many parents we are growing increasingly concerned of visiting this community facility — a place meant for safe enjoyment of skateboarding, scootering, and other recreational activities. Offering a much needed antidote to the isolating effects of the digital culture . Instead of communicating through screens young people are engaging face to face , building friendships . It’s great to see the older children helping to teach the much younger ones creating a real sense of community .
Woodhouse Lane Skatepark should be a sanctuary for our children, a place where they can refine their skills and enjoy their hobbies with friends without the looming threat of harassment and assault. However, the growing presence of this disruptive group has turned it into an unsafe environment. It's disheartening that such a small minority is tarnishing the experience for the majority who simply wish to enjoy scootering with their friends .
We believe the installation of CCTV cameras at Woodhouse Lane Skatepark could act as a deterrent to anti-social behavior. Monitoring can ensure that if any incidents occur, there will be evidence available to aid police investigations, potentially preventing further occurrences.
CCTV is not just about catching perpetrators; it’s about prevention and creating a secure environment where our children feel free to play and grow. Other local councils have successfully reduced crime and disturbances with the strategic use of surveillance. For instance both Bishops Waltham and Swanmore have implemented CCTV at their Skateparks and observed a decrease in ASB in the areas.
We urge the Hedge End council to install CCTV at the Woodhouse Lane Skatepark as an essential step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of all its users. Protecting our children should be a top priority, and this measure could be instrumental in achieving that.
Please support our petition for a safer environment for all. Sign now to make our skatepark a secure place for our community's children to enjoy.
