The issue

We, the undersigned residents and visitors of the Canterbury-Bankstown area, respectfully request that Canterbury-Bankstown Council install security cameras and increase monitoring at Wiley Park-park to address ongoing illegal and antisocial activities that are occurring, particularly during the evening and night hours.

Over an extended period, Wiley Park-park has been affected by repeated incidents that are negatively impacting the environment, wildlife, nearby residents, and the general enjoyment and safety of this public space. These issues include, but are not limited to:

Illegal fireworks being set off almost every night, which frighten and harm local wildlife, create fire risks, and significantly disturb the peace of surrounding neighbourhoods.

Fishing in prohibited areas, causing environmental damage and breaching council and environmental regulations.

Motorcycles and cars being driven through the park at night, posing serious safety risks and damaging park grounds.

Large late-night parties, resulting in excessive noise, vandalism, littering, and rubbish being left throughout the park.

These activities undermine the purpose of Wiley Park as a safe, family-friendly, and environmentally protected public space. Current enforcement measures have proven insufficient to deter repeat offenders.

We believe that the installation of security cameras, along with clear signage and appropriate monitoring, would:

Act as a strong deterrent against illegal behaviour

Assist authorities in identifying offenders

Improve safety for park users and nearby residents

Protect wildlife, infrastructure, and the natural environment

Help restore Wiley Park-park as a peaceful and respected community space

We respectfully urge Canterbury-Bankstown Council to take prompt action by approving and installing security cameras at key locations within Wiley Park and by strengthening enforcement to prevent further damage and disturbance.

Thank you for considering this petition and for your continued efforts to protect our shared public spaces.
