The Issue

My 6-year-old disabled daughter, who has cerebral palsy, was recently subjected to an appalling incident in her classroom—a place where she should feel safe and protected. She was smacked in the face by a teacher, an act both cruel and degrading. In today's world, it is crucial that our children are protected, and that justice can be ensured when wrongdoings occur.

Currently, there are no cameras installed in classrooms across the Kenton County School District, which means incidents like the one involving my daughter can go unwitnessed and unproven. The absence of surveillance not only puts children at risk but also hampers our ability to hold wrongdoers accountable.

Installing surveillance cameras in every classroom, hallway, cafeteria, and gymnasium will provide the necessary oversight to prevent abuse, bullying, and misconduct. Cameras can serve as a deterrent against teacher and student misconduct, ensuring a safer environment for all students, especially those who are most vulnerable, such as children with disabilities.

According to a 2018 study, schools with cameras saw a significant decrease in incidences of violence and bullying by 50%. Furthermore, many argue that the presence of cameras can actually help in protecting teachers from false accusations, creating a transparent environment where teaching and learning can thrive unhampered by fear.

Installation of surveillance cameras is a practical and effective measure that requires support from the school district, parents, and teachers. With collective action, we can create a school environment that respects and protects its students' dignity and promotes safety above all.

Ensure our children are supported and safeguarded in their learning environment by taking action. Sign this petition to urge Kenton County School District to install cameras in every classroom without delay. Your support can make a difference in preventing any child from experiencing what my daughter and our family has had to endure. Please join us in this important cause and help protect the future of our children.
