Install Cameras in Care Homes to Prevent Neglect

The Issue

Every year, thousands of elderly people suffer from neglect and abuse in care homes. My nan was one of them. In the last year of her life, she fell from bed and her calls for help were ignored for 22 minutes. Her fall mat was found to be faulty. If I didn't install a camera I'd never have know what happened in the last day in the care home.  It breaks my heart to think that she suffered so much in her final days.

We cannot let this continue. We need to take action to protect our loved ones in care homes. That's why I'm calling on all care homes to install cameras in every room.

Cameras would provide a way for families to monitor their loved ones and ensure they are receiving the care they need. They would also act as a deterrent against neglect and abuse by staff members.

Some may argue that cameras infringe on privacy rights, but the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable individuals should always come first. And with proper regulations in place, such as limiting access to footage only to family members or authorized personnel, privacy concerns can be addressed.

According to a study by Age UK, 1 in 3 care homes fail basic safety standards. This is unacceptable and highlights the urgent need for increased accountability measures like cameras.

Join me in demanding that all care homes install cameras in every room so we can prevent neglect and ensure our loved ones receive the quality care they deserve.
