As a parent of children with special needs in the Winslow Township school district, I am deeply concerned about the lack of air conditioning in our schools. My children, who have speech delays and often struggle to express their discomfort, are particularly vulnerable to the distress heat can cause. This can lead to underperformance and adverse health effects.

As well as impacting students, the lack of air conditioning affects our dedicated teachers. They cannot give their all when working in stifling and uncomfortable conditions. This environment can compromise the quality of education and our children's safety - a risk we simply cannot take.

Our children deserve better! In the U.S., a Harvard Study showed that the impacts of heat can decrease student learning by an estimated 1% per 1°F increase in school year temperature, underlining the gravity of the situation (Harvard University, 2021). Air conditioning in classrooms is no longer a luxury – it is a necessity for a modern, effective learning environment.

Let’s collectively call on the Winslow Township school board to install air conditioning units in all classrooms, from elementary through high school. Our children's education and well-being depend on it. I urge you to sign this petition to modernize Winslow's schools and provide the best possible learning environment for our children.
