As residents of Mar Vista, Los Angeles, we have a personal connection to our local park. We've seen how the tennis courts and various recreational sections are equipped with adequate lighting, enhancing safety and extending the time available for practicing and enjoying these activities. This provision has proven invaluable, particularly for our young athletes who are keen to hone their skills.

However, as autumn unfolds and daylight savings ends on November 5th, our soccer enthusiasts face a significant challenge - insufficient lighting on the soccer field. The soccer field, despite being officially open until 9 p.m. on weekdays, becomes inaccessible as early as 5 p.m due to diminishing sunlight. This not only limits practice time but also poses potential safety risks for those who risk playing in low light conditions.

We urge the relevant authorities in Los Angeles County Parks & Recreation Department to address this issue promptly by installing sufficient lighting around Mar Vista Park's soccer field. Doing so will ensure that it remains accessible during its operational hours throughout the year and provides a safe environment for all users.

We understand the need to balance energy consumption and the environment, and we are more than willing to collaborate on a solution that aligns with the community's best interests.

To accommodate the concerns of all stakeholders, we would be willing to compromise on the operating hours for the lights. We propose lights that automatically turn off once the field officially closes. Given that darkness falls around 5 p.m. during this season (if not earlier), granting us a few more hours of well-lit playtime would greatly enhance the usability of the soccer field.
