Install AC in SUNY Oswego dorms for students' safety
The Issue
Living in an environment without air conditioning is not just uncomfortable—it's unbearable and hazardous. I personally struggle with heat intolerance, making life in the dormitories at SUNY Oswego extremely challenging. The constant feelings of nausea and discomfort hinder my ability to study, work, and simply exist in what should be my home away from home. It's unacceptable that as students paying substantial tuition and fees, we are forced to endure such insufferable living conditions.
The dorm buildings lack adequate air conditioning, and during the warm months, the heat becomes oppressive. Temperatures inside can soar to dangerous levels, creating an environment that's not only unpleasant but also unhealthy. Many students, including myself, have experienced symptoms like dizziness, nausea, dehydration, and even heat-related illnesses due to the excessive heat. This is not just about comfort—it's about our health and well-being.
SUNY Oswego is our learning sanctuary, a place where we are supposed to thrive academically and personally. Yet, without proper climate control, our focus shifts from education to merely surviving the day. The physical and mental strain caused by these conditions takes a toll on our academic performance, mental health, and overall college experience.
The administration has the resources and capabilities to make this necessary change. Installing air conditioning units in all dormitories isn't just a luxury—it's a basic necessity in today's climate. Many universities across the country have already upgraded their facilities to ensure students live in safe and conducive environments.
We urge the administration at SUNY Oswego to prioritize the health and comfort of its students by installing air conditioning units in the dormitories. Let's create a living environment where students can focus on their studies and well-being without the added stress of extreme heat. Sign this petition to demand a safe, comfortable, and healthy living environment at SUNY Oswego!
