Install a zebra crossing in Balsall Common Village
The Issue
Every day, I witness a potentially dangerous situation unfolding on the roads of Balsall Common Village, particularly outside One Stop. As our village grows, so does the traffic. It's becoming increasingly perilous for our community members to cross the road safely.
School children are often seen dashing across in fear, risking their lives as cars speed past. Older residents, some with mobility issues, are seen struggling to navigate this busy stretch, hastening to reach the other side. The absence of a designated crossing has created a hazardous situation that could lead to severe accidents.
The heart of the matter is safety. Our growing village deserves better infrastructure to accommodate its increasing population and traffic. The installation of a zebra crossing in this key location would provide a dedicated and safe place for everyone to cross, reducing the risk of accidents and offering peace of mind.
Statistics show that pedestrian crossings significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents. According to research published by RoSPA, the introduction of zebra crossings can decrease pedestrian incidents by up to 40% in busy urban areas. Implementing one in our village could quite literally be a lifesaver.
Furthermore, several communities have successfully lobbied for and installed similar crossings, resulting in safer environments for their residents. Balsall Common Village could follow suit, ensuring the wellbeing of its citizens, from the youngest schoolgoing children to our valued elderly members.
By signing this petition, we can urge local authorities and the relevant transportation departments to prioritize our safety and install a zebra crossing outside One Stop. This small yet significant change could prevent potential injuries, and perhaps even save lives.
Join me in taking a stand today for a safer Balsall Common. Sign the petition and help make our village a safer, more pedestrian-friendly community.
