The Issue

Every day, I drive through Mountain View Village, a bustling area that should be thriving, yet every time, I am filled with apprehension as I approach the four-way stop. This intersection is a ticking time bomb, where danger lurks in the form of confusion and potential accidents. Drivers often misjudge their turns, leading to chaos and near-misses. It’s become a challenge to navigate, especially with numerous lanes that make it difficult to know exactly when it’s your turn to go.

The existing setup is inadequate for handling the volume of traffic that passes through our community every day. I am concerned for my safety and the safety of countless others—friends, families, and children who travel this route regularly. It’s only a matter of time before confusion turns into a serious accident, putting lives at risk and causing distress to our community.

Research indicates that nearly 2.5 million accidents a year occur at intersections, and in many cases, the absence of traffic signals is a significant factor. According to the Federal Highway Administration, installing traffic lights can reduce collisions at intersections by nearly 50%. These statistics should not be ignored. Our community deserves better protection against the hazards posed by an out-of-date traffic management system.

Installing a traffic light at this intersection is a simple but effective solution to ensure the safety of everyone who drives, walks, or cycles through Mountain View Village. It will bring order to the chaos, reduce the risk of accidents, and ensure a smooth flow of traffic that respects every commuter's turn.

We urge the local transportation authorities to take immediate action. Listen to the voices of your community, acknowledge the risks we face, and prioritize our safety. Let us transform this threat into a triumph of safety and organization.

Please sign this petition to demand the installation of a traffic light at the Mountain View Village intersection. Together, we can make our community safer and more navigable for everyone.

I’d love to provide some information to the residents who are signing this petition. Right now, the roads in Mountain View Village are private roads owned by the developer. But, I am actively working with city staff to get the roads transferred over to city ownership. Once that happens, we can make the necessary improvements including adding a traffic signal at the four way stop. Best, Andy ANDY PIERUCCI Riverton City Council – District 1
