The Issue

My name is [Denise Jones ], and I live in Easton, Pennsylvania. Recently, my 2023 Audi A4 was parked on South 10th Street when it was hit and totaled due to reckless speeding. Thankfully, I wasn't in the car at the time, but this incident has left me deeply shaken. The accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangerous speeding problem we are facing in our neighborhood. Even more concerning is the fact that there are always children playing in the area; the thought of a child getting struck by a speeding vehicle is my worst nightmare. It's only a matter of time before someone suffers a severe or even fatal injury if nothing is done.

Speeding and traffic accidents are not isolated incidents in Easton, particularly at the intersection of South 10th and Ferry Street. Unfortunately, this junction has become notorious for speeding vehicles, endangering residents and their properties. According to local police reports and neighborhood accounts, this area sees frequent accidents due to speeding, making it a high-risk zone.

We have a realistic and immediate solution: install a traffic light at the intersection of South 10th and Ferry Street. This action will not only serve to regulate traffic speed but will also ensure safer pedestrian crossings for everyone, especially children and elderly residents. A traffic light can drastically reduce the number of accidents, calm the speed of vehicles, and restore a sense of safety to our neighborhood.

I urge the Easton city council and transportation authorities to take quick action on this matter before more lives are put at risk. It's time we prioritize the safety of our community over convenience. By installing a traffic light, you're not just adding an infrastructure element, but shielding a community from unnecessary and potentially life-threatening accidents.
