Install a traffic light at Clark Rd and Route 32 intersection
The Issue
Every day, residents, employees, parents, students, and business owners travel through the intersection of Clark Road and Route 32 in Gansevoort, New York — and every day, they take a risk.
As a business owner living and working directly near this intersection, I have witnessed the danger firsthand. Too often, my employees and I become the first people on the scene after accidents occur. We have assisted drivers, called emergency responders, and cleaned debris left scattered across the roadway after crashes. This is not an occasional occurrence — it has become a disturbing reality for those of us who live and work here.
I have personally had multiple near-miss experiences at this intersection. Many others in our community share the same fear every time they attempt to pull onto or cross Route 32.
Route 32 is a heavily traveled highway with a 45 mph speed limit through this area. It serves local residents, commuters, school buses, emergency vehicles, delivery drivers, and visitors traveling throughout the Town of Moreau. With continued residential and commercial growth in Gansevoort, traffic volume has increased significantly, yet safety improvements at this intersection have not kept pace.
According to local reports and community observations, accidents at this intersection and along this corridor have continued to rise, with some estimates showing crash activity increasing by more than 30% over the last two years. Each accident places additional strain on emergency responders, law enforcement, and local resources — but more importantly, each crash represents a life that could be permanently changed or lost.
Community members have repeatedly voiced concerns about the dangers at Clark Road and Route 32, only to be told that meaningful action may not occur unless a fatality happens at this exact location. Waiting for a tragedy before implementing safety measures is unacceptable.
We are calling on the Town of Moreau and the New York State Department of Transportation to take immediate action by conducting a comprehensive traffic safety review and implementing meaningful safety improvements. These improvements may include:
• Installation of a traffic light
• Reduced speed limits
• Improved signage and visibility
• Turning lanes or traffic controls
• Enhanced road markings and lighting
Our community should not have to wait for a fatal accident before preventative action is taken.
By signing this petition, you are standing up for the safety of every driver, passenger, child, employee, first responder, and family who travels through this intersection. Together, we can urge local officials to prioritize safety before another serious accident occurs.
Please sign and share this petition to help make Clark Road and Route 32 safer for everyone.
