The intersection at Bluff Rd and Bluff Industrial Rd in Columbia, South Carolina (near Bernie's Chicken and Mavis Tires) is notorious for severe traffic congestion, especially during school hours. The student-living complex, Stadium Suites, is located at the end of Bluff Industrial Rd; as many students leave for class at the same time, they are often forced to wait 10-15 minutes just to take a left turn as there is no traffic light. Car accidents (both minor and severe) are also common at this intersection due to Bluff Rd's heavy traffic and a severe lack of proper traffic control. Additionally, due to the location of Bernie's Chicken, it is sometimes difficult to tell whether someone is turning into the Bernie’s lot or Bluff Industrial Rd, causing more accidents. 

As more and more student housing complexes are being built on Bluff Rd, the traffic issue is only going to worsen.

A traffic light at this intersection would regulate the flow of vehicles more effectively, reduce wait times, and significantly decrease the likelihood of accidents.

I urge SCDOT officials to prioritize this issue and allocate the necessary resources to install a traffic light at this intersection. Let’s work together to create a safer environment for all road users and make Columbia a better place to live and travel!
