The Issue

Driving through the intersection at the corner of Auburn-Folsom Road and Newcastle Road in Placer County, California, has been a deeply unsettling experience for me. It's where my handyman had an accident, and it’s a place I fear every time I approach. More than once, I have found myself cautiously inching forward from the east side on Newcastle Road, hoping the road is clear, only to realize too late that cars have been speeding down Auburn-Folsom Road from the north. The sudden appearance of these vehicles has left me with a racing heart, braced for the worst. This intersection is a daily ordeal for me and many others in our community.

The dangers at this intersection are not just about my personal experiences. It is a well-known hazard that has posed a risk for numerous drivers in the area. Auburn-Folsom Road, heavily trafficked and notorious for its speeding vehicles, comes to a potentially deadly conflict with the vehicles emerging from Newcastle Road. Visibility is limited for those turning onto Auburn-Folsom Road, with sightlines obstructed by the natural landscape and quick-moving northbound traffic.

Accidents and near-misses are reported all too often at this juncture, where the lives of drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists are under threat. The statistics from local authorities mirror our fears; in the past few years, there have been multiple reported accidents causing injuries and even fatalities.

The installation of a stoplight at this particular intersection is not only a need but a necessity. A traffic signal would significantly improve visibility and offer regulated safe passage for every direction, preventing the confusion and dangers associated with unchecked traffic flows. This change could save lives and bring peace of mind to countless residents of Placer County who travel through this intersection daily.

I urge Placer County officials to take immediate action and install a stoplight at the intersection of Auburn-Folsom Road and Newcastle Road. This is not just about convenience; it is about the safety and well-being of our community members. We cannot afford to wait for more accidents to justify this dire need.

Please join me in advocating for this critical change by signing this petition. Every signature brings us closer to a safer future for everyone who uses these roads. Together, we can make a difference and prevent further tragedies. Sign now and help make Placer County a safer place to live and drive.

Dear Residents, Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns and for submitting a petition regarding the intersection of Newcastle Road and Auburn Folsom Road. Staff and I have visited the site and understand the safety concerns firsthand. Prior to receiving your petition, our office had already been in communication with our Roads team regarding this intersection due to earlier complaints from residents on Newcastle rd. I have forwarded your petition to ensure it is included in their review. At the time of this response, there is no confirmed action plan; however, our traffic engineers are evaluating what’s required to install a signal at this location. In the interim, crews will maintain vegetation to ensure clear lines of sight for drivers. I appreciate residents like you who take the initiative to reach out. You serve as the eyes and ears of our district, and your input is essential in helping us identify and address community needs. If you would like to follow up directly, please feel free to contact me at supervisorjones@placer.ca.gov.
