On February 28th, 2025, a student from Plainfield Middle School was hit by a car while walking to school. The young scholar was taken to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment for injuries incurred during the accident. This tragic event has underscored the urgent need for safety precautions at the intersection of Simmons Street and Stafford Road.

Every day, numerous students traverse this intersection, which lacks both a stoplight and pedestrian crossing. This potentially hazardous situation puts our children at risk. According to the National Safe Routes to School program, roughly 30% of child pedestrian injuries occur in close vicinity to schools.

To prevent future accidents and ensure the safety of our children, this petition seeks to advocate for the installation of a stoplight and pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Simmons Street and Stafford Road.
