The Issue

Every morning, I watch in anxiety as students of Masters Elementary School attempt to cross the intersection at Woodlake Parkway and Phoenix Path. The cars zoom past, often disregarding the presence of children merely trying to make it to school safely. This dangerous scenario has become an everyday reality for residents, parents, and teachers.

The intersection is a crucial crossing point for numerous students, yet it currently lacks a stop sign to control rushing traffic. Without this essential safety measure, children's lives are at risk each day as they navigate this bustling roadway. With Masters Elementary School just a stone's throw away from this junction, it only makes sense to enhance safety measures for our children.

Research from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that pedestrian safety measures, such as stop signs, can reduce traffic accidents by as much as 35%. Installing a stop sign at the intersection would not only prioritize the safety of our children but also encourage more mindful driving, reducing the risk of potential accidents.

Additionally, stop signs have been proven to provide a marked improvement in local traffic flow by compelling vehicles to come to a complete halt before proceeding, thus reducing speed-related incidents. This is a proactive step that can prevent potential tragic accidents and create a safer environment for everyone.

We kindly urge the local council and the traffic authority to consider the urgent need for a stop sign at this busy and hazardous intersection. Let's not wait until a preventable tragedy strikes. With community support, we can push for this vital change and ensure our children's commute is a safe one.

Please join us in making Masters Elementary School's surroundings safer by signing this petition for the installation of a stop sign at Woodlake Parkway at the intersection of Phoenix Path. Your signature could very well save a life.
