Daily, my family struggles with a problem that not only affects our quality of life but also puts us at risk. Each morning, it's a struggle to turn left from Old Spencer Mountain Rd. onto Lower Dallas Hwy., whether it's to drop my son off at school, or for my husband to commute to work. This year, the concern has multiplied as my son will begin driving. This intersection is challenging even for experienced drivers, let alone new young drivers. 

The dire need for a stop light can't be overstated. Based on the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) crash data for 2018, intersections without traffic signals are 150% more likely to witness accidents than those that do have. Unfortunately, the intersection of Old Spencer Mountain Rd. and Lower Dallas Hwy. is currently amongst the vast number of unsignaled intersections, placing us and our neighbors at perpetual risk. As our community grows, so does the traffic, further escalating the danger.

Therefore, we urge the NCDOT to install a stop light at the intersection of Old Spencer Mountain Rd. and Lower Dallas Hwy., not only to streamline the daily commutes, but most importantly, to safeguard the lives of the residents. Please sign the petition and help us make this crucial change.
