I write this petition today to urge authorities to install a stop light at the intersection of NM 217 (Mountain Valley Rd) & NM 333 (Old Rt 66).

Myself and others have had close brushes with accidents at this dangerous intersection, which is well known locally for its safety concerns. NM 333 is a high-speed, heavily trafficked road with a speed limit set at 55 mph. The intersection's design has visibility restrictions on both sides of NM 217 as that road intersects at an acute angle. The visibility restrictions enhance the potential for accidents, including lethal ones. We local residents are urging installation of a light at this menacing intersection to improve safety conditions. Reports show that adding traffic lights to dangerous intersections can decrease accidents by approximately 25% (National Cooperative Highway Research Program). We appeal to the responsible authorities to act now and make living in the Bernalillo County East Mountains safer for everyone.
