Install a Speed Camera on Springfield Road to Reduce Excessive Speeding

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call upon the Sutton Coldfield Council and West Midlands Police to urgently install a speed camera on Springfield Road to enhance safety for residents, pedestrians, and motorists.

The Problem:

Springfield Road is a busy route within Sutton Coldfield, where excessive speeding has become a significant risk to public safety. Recent incidents throughout Sutton Coldfield highlight the dangers of high-speed driving on residential roads. Nearby areas, such as Boldmere Road, have experienced tragic fatalities, including a recent incident in July 2024 where a pedestrian was struck and killed. Likewise, collisions involving motorcyclists and cars have tragically resulted in further fatalities, as seen at Monmouth Drive and other nearby junctions.

Why a Speed Camera?

A speed camera on Springfield Road would deter speeding, protect pedestrians—especially children and elderly residents—and reduce the likelihood of further accidents. Speed cameras have been shown to significantly reduce speed-related incidents, potentially saving lives and reducing strain on emergency services. By acting now, we can prevent Springfield Road from becoming the next site of a tragic accident.

Join us in petitioning for a safer Springfield Road. Together, we can help make our community a safer place for everyone.
