The Issue

Cowboy Lane in Frenship Mesa has become a perilous stretch of road for our community, and it hits me personally. My 3 and 4-year-old children and I witnessed a distracted driver strike our beloved family dog on the curve. Standing on the sidewalk, mere feet away with other schoolchildren present, we were horrified as the driver continued without even attempting to brake until well after she hit her in front of us. There was ample amount of time for anyone to have seen that people were on the sidewalk walking towards the street and that there were two dogs in the street before she struck our dog.

This incident is not isolated. Residents who live along Cowboy Lane, including our family at 202 Cowboy Ln, observe drivers speeding, driving the wrong direction, and driving carelessly every day. The curve of Cowboy Ln is particularly hazardous, where this dangerous behavior is worse.

Our community is home to many families, students, and pets who deserve a safe environment. The reckless driving endangers everyone, especially on the curve that students use when walking to and from school. Immediate action is needed to prevent further tragedies.

Installing a speed bump on Cowboy Ln is a simple and effective measure to reduce these dangers, ensuring drivers slow down, pay attention, and prioritize safety. Speed bumps have proven successful in similar communities, lowering average speeds and the incidence of accidents. They would serve as a visible deterrent to those recklessly speeding or not paying attention.

We call on the city officials of Wolfforth, TX, to prioritize this public safety issue. Implementing a speed bump on Cowboy Ln can prevent future accidents, protect our community members, and provide peace of mind for parents like me.

Please, for the safety of our children and pets, and the peace of mind of residents, sign this petition to make Cowboy Ln a safer place for everyone.

The City of Wolfforth is very interested in hearing the concerns of our citizens, and we highly encourage citizen involvement. However, and unfortunately, an online petition isn't the path to success for these types of concerns. Please advise the petitioners that they need to reach out to the City of Wolfforth directly, and contact either Randy Criswell (City Manager) or Rick Scott (Assistant City Manager). Either of them can provide guidance. Mr. Criswell's email is rcriswell@wolfforthtx.us, and Mr. Scott's is rscott@wolfforthtx.us. They can be reached at 806-855-4120. Thank you for your interest and assistance, and I know our staff will be more than helpful. Charlotte McDonald
