The Issue

Every morning and afternoon, my heart races as I watch my kids, along with countless others, make their way to Graceview Academy. The streets surrounding our beloved school transform into chaotic pathways packed with hurried cars, all trying to get their young passengers to school on time. As a parent, my greatest desire is to see my children safe, and currently, the lack of a school crossing light leaves me feeling anxious every day.

The streets near Graceview Academy urgently require a school crossing light to protect our children. Did you know that over 5,000 children between the ages of 5 and 14 are injured as pedestrians in traffic accidents each year? It’s time we put a stop to this risk in our community, particularly around our school where, without proper safety measures, our kids are constantly at risk from unintended harm.

We propose the installation of a school crossing signal, a vital implementation that can regulate traffic and significantly lower the risk of accidents. This will ensure that drivers slow down and respect crossing zones, giving students the right of way at all times. Furthermore, statistics show that crossing signals immensely improve child pedestrian safety at similar institutions across the country, often reducing accidents by up to 40%.

We believe that ensuring the safety of our children is a shared responsibility. We are reaching out to local council members and the city's traffic department to take immediate action. The protection of our community's children should be a top priority, and installing a signal provides an astute and actionable solution.

Join me in making a tangible impact for the future of our children's safety. Sign this petition to demand the urgent installation of a school crossing light at Graceview Academy and let’s ensure a safer path for every student. Together, we can make a difference.
