At Railroad Skatepark in Lewisville, we’re passionate about skating, and the skatepark is a vital part of our community. However, there's a problem that skaters here keep encountering. The ride-on flatbar obstacle is not meeting the needs of our community. Everyone I know who uses the skatepark, as well as countless skaters I've talked to, agree that this feature is disliked and practically unusable.

A ride-on flatbar is designed without the curves and slope adjustments that skaters typically enjoy and find necessary for executing a wide range of tricks safely. This limits creative freedom, makes learning new techniques difficult, and doesn't match the dynamic needs of the skating community here. We would all appreciate an addition—a regular round flatbar that is more versatile, user-friendly, and inspirational for skaters of all levels.

We have openly discussed these issues but have seen no steps towards the necessary improvements. If we attempted to install it ourselves, even out of our pockets, it's likely that the city would remove it, remaining unconstructive towards making the change we all unanimously support. Now, we are calling upon the city to listen and act.

We are not asking for something unprecedented; skateparks nationwide have set examples by including round flatbars, and Lewisville deserves to not just follow suit, but to meet the actual needs of its residents and skaters. Studies indicate that well-designed skateparks contribute significantly to youth engagement in healthy, outdoor activities, reducing potential negative behaviors and fostering a sense of community and creativity.

This change will rejuvenate our skatepark and create an environment that respects and enhances the talents of both beginner and advanced skaters. It's a simple yet profound opportunity to show that Lewisville values what its community cherishes. The skatepark is more than just infrastructure to us; it’s our meeting ground, our canvas for expression, and a cornerstone of our local culture.
