Install a Red Light at the Intersection of 2021 and 69 North for Safer Commuting

The Issue

I am a concerned resident of Central, and live near the intersection of 2021 and 69 North. Over the past decade, our quiet corner of the world has experienced a significant population influx, which has brought along increased vehicular traffic. This intersection is drastically more dangerous than before. Despite the red light at the junction at Chimney Rock and 69N providing some traffic breaks for those traveling north, the visibility issues stemming from traffic coming from the North remain a significant concern. The highway's curve, combined with the speed limit being constantly exceeded, makes crossing the highway a game of chance at any time of day, particularly during morning hours.

Statistics from The Highway Safety Research Group (2019) reveal that wide, flat regions like ours have a higher proportion of intersection-related traffic crashes, with about 40% of the 2.5 million crashes happening at intersections each year.

We are asking for the critical installation of a red light at the intersection of 2021 and 69 North. This simple step can go a long way in ensuring safer driving conditions for everyone in our community. A red light would significantly reduce the danger of crossing the highway, increase visibility, and help regulate excessively fast cars.

We cannot wait for another tragedy to happen before we act. The safety of our community members is paramount. Please join us in this crusade for a safer commute by signing this petition. Your signature matters.
