Install a red-light at Old Summerville Rd NW and Martha Berry Blvd

The Issue

**A Plea for Safety: A Personal Account**

My mother and my aunt—women who have traversed so many roads with caution and care—recently found themselves in a terrifying traffic accident at the intersection of Old Summerville Rd NW and Martha Berry Blvd. My 77-year-old mother, who has been driving without incident her entire life, experienced her first accident in this very place. It's a location treacherous by design, and one that desperately requires a solution.

**The Problem**

Old Summerville Road NW intersects Martha Berry Blvd at an alarmingly narrow angle, roughly 25 degrees. This geometric anomaly restricts the visibility of oncoming traffic, which often speeds by at approximately 55 mph. Navigating this intersection can feel like a game of chance, where the stakes are far too high. The danger escalates during school loading and unloading hours, as Armuchee High School is only a stone's throw away.

Adding to the hazardous conditions is a practice by the school: they frequently place a locked gate across the road, further bottlenecking the traffic when a relief option is most needed.

**The Proposed Solution: A Red-Light**

The installation of a traffic light at this perilous junction would serve as a life-saving measure. A functional red-light would regulate traffic flow, minimize the risk of high-speed collisions, and offer a much-needed respite to drivers entering the highway. Red-lights in similar high-risk areas have been shown to reduce accidents significantly. Not only will it serve residents, but it will also protect students and faculty members at Armuchee High School.

**Call to Action**

This petition seeks to rally community members and local authorities to take immediate action by installing a traffic light at this intersection. Let us not wait for another accident to realize the urgent need for safety. Join me in advocating for this crucial change to protect not just our loved ones but everyone who travels this route.

Please, sign this petition to demand a safer intersection at Old Summerville Rd NW and Martha Berry Blvd. We cannot afford to risk more lives due to inaction.
