My mother and my aunt—women who have traversed so many roads with caution and care—recently found themselves in a terrifying traffic accident at the intersection of Old Summerville Rd NW and Martha Berry Blvd. My 77-year-old mother, who has been driving without incident her entire life, experienced her first accident in this very place. It's a location treacherous by design, and one that desperately requires a solution.

This geometric anomaly restricts the visibility of oncoming traffic, which often speeds by at approximately 55 mph. Adding to the hazardous conditions is a practice by the school: they frequently place a locked gate across the road, further bottlenecking the traffic when a relief option is most needed.

Red-lights in similar high-risk areas have been shown to reduce accidents significantly. Not only will it serve residents, but it will also protect students and faculty members at Armuchee High School.
