Install a public restroom behind Parea Gyros on The Arrowhead Trail
La causa
As the owner of Parea Gyros, a decision to expand my kitchen led our establishment to switch to a take-out only format. This pivot has inadvertently affected the trail users behind my establishment, who now lack access to nearby restroom facilities. Previously, patrons could use our in-house amenities, but now, they find themselves having to walk to nearby businesses like Subway or Heisler just to find a restroom. This isn't just inconvenient; it places an unexpected burden on small businesses that should not be solely responsible for providing amenities to the increasing number of trail-goers.
The trail is a vital community resource, providing a safe and scenic environment for walking, jogging, and cycling. However, unlike other segments of the trail which are equipped with public restrooms, this particular stretch behind Parea Gyros is lacking such essential facilities. Trail users deserve the convenience and dignity of having a restroom available, especially since this pathway is regularly frequented by families, seniors, and individuals with specific needs.
Installing a public restroom, even if it's a semi-permanent structure like a nicer port-a-john, will significantly enhance the trail experience, making it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone. It will also mitigate the issue of people trespassing or using inappropriate areas as alternatives, which can lead to sanitation concerns as well as disturbance to adjacent private properties.
Peters Township Parks & Recreation board, we urge you to recognise the necessity of establishing a public restroom along this section of the trail. Proper facilities will not only serve the practical needs of the community but also reflect a commitment to promote public health and sustain the well-being of those who utilize these communal spaces.
