Living on Douglas Ave in New Haven has its unique benefits and challenges. However, the parking situation on my side of the street has become unbearable. Every day, I struggle to find parking space near my home due to vehicles that do not belong to residents. Some of these cars, and sometimes even company trucks, remain parked for days without moving. This not only disrupts the community's ability to park conveniently near their homes but also impacts my tenants, friends, and family when they visit. It’s reached a point where it's nearly impossible for those of us who reside on Douglas Ave to find a spot.

The root of the issue is that people who do not reside on Douglas Ave utilize our street for parking, taking advantage of the free space for their convenience. This practice has created a nuisance and has disrupted the daily life of the community that calls Douglas Ave home. Visitors who are friends, family, or clients of residents should have the opportunity to find parking without having to walk long distances.

To solve this problem, I am proposing the installation of a permit parking sign on our side of the street. A designated permit parking system will ensure that only residents and their approved guests can park in our area. This will not only alleviate the current parking congestion but also enhance the quality of living for the Douglas Ave community. The city of New Haven has implemented similar systems with great success in other neighborhoods, proving the effectiveness of regulated parking zones for preserving community resources.
