Install a Pedestrian Crossing on Victoria St, Williamstown

Install a Pedestrian Crossing on Victoria St, Williamstown
The issue
My heart nearly stopped when my son told me he almost got hit by a car on Victoria Street near the intersection of Gellibrand Street. This terrifying moment underscored the pressing need to improve pedestrian safety in our beloved neighbourhood of Williamstown, VIC.
Victoria Street is a bustling area, during peak hours, with many children left navigating the busy road with no safe place to cross.
Despite its heavy foot traffic, the lack of a pedestrian crossing near Gellibrand Street poses a significant risk to our community.
It is an undeniable fact that without proper pedestrian safety measures, the probability of accidents and tragic losses of life increases.
In 2019, Hobsons Bay Council conducted a Street Analysis, which highlighted this dangerous section of road, including a suggested pedestrian crossing, which was never installed, in the same location where my son almost got hit by a car. https://participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/victoriastreet/background-project
We urge the local council to hear our plea for a pedestrian crossing. By installing this crucial safety feature, we can significantly reduce the risk of accidents, saving lives and offering peace of mind to every parent, child, and resident.
Statistics show that pedestrian crossings are proven to reduce traffic accidents and enhance safety in urban areas. The installation of a crossing would not only protect our children and families but also improve the overall quality of life in our community.
The time to act is now.
We request that the responsible authorities prioritise this matter urgently, as the safety of our community cannot wait any longer.
Please join us in making our neighbourhood safer for everyone by signing this petition and urging the local council to take immediate action.
Please be sure to share this with friends and family.
Kind regards,
Asha Martin
